What are the LOC/LCO methods ?

LOC method is used on high porosity hair

  • Liquid is often referred to water or leave-in conditioner in order to moisturize and facilitate detangling the hair.
  • Oil is used to help the hair hold its moisture. (High porosity should use heavier oils since moisture can easily escape the hair.)
  • Cream is used to help lock in the moisture in the hair cuticle. It also provides curls definitions and a stronger hold.

What are the benefits of LOC?

With the LOC method, it promotes moisture RETENTION.

  • The cream shouldn't be used after the liquid step to avoid hygral fatigue and lifeless curls with its lack of bounce. (It may result in weakening the protein bonds).
  • This method can be used when you attempt to do your wash-and-go. This can range between every few days or a week or more. It would be best if you didn't have your wash-and-go exceed more than two weeks, or you risk severe product buildup.

LCO method is used on low porosity hair

    • Liquid is often referred to water or leave-in conditioner in order to moisturize and facilitate detangling the hair.
    • Cream is used to add an additional layer to protect, lock in and reinforce the moisture into the hair.
    • Oil is used to help seal the moisture and add shine. (Low porosity should use lightweight oil to reduce product build up.)

What are the benefits of LCO?

With the LCO method, it promotes moisture PENETRATION.

    • An oil, since it has no water content, should be used last. If used after the liquid, it will block the effectiveness of the cream. This will cause more build-up in the low porosity hair because it is sitting on top of the oil and not penetrating. (Too much build-up will lead to more dryness!)
    • This method should be applied at least every time you wash your hair, which should be about once a week. (If you use quality products, you'll be able to last 4-5 days.)

    Quick Tip:

When implementing any new methods into your hair routine, it is advised that you give it more than one try before you toss it aside. You should try the LOC/LCO method for at least three wash sessions to determine whether it is right for you.
